Historically, the Autumn Equinox has been a meaningful time of year to honor the harvest. While this used to be a real harvest of things planted on your land, in modern-day it can mean what you’ve planted in your garden, seeds you’ve planted for your business or even intentions that you’ve set toward your life purpose.

The word “equinox” means “equal night”, referring to the two times of the year when the day and night are roughly the same (each twelve hours). Spring Equinox is the other day that this happens.

The Druids and Indigenous Cultures recognized the sacred energy of the four points of the year: the Winter Solstice, Spring Equinox, Summer Solstice, and Autumn Equinox. These seasons marked stages not only in the earth’s cycle, but in a spiritual cycle which offered different ways to Co-Create with the season to birth or carry forward your creations.

As you progress on your spiritual journey, you may find yourself wanting to connect to these energies in a ritual or ceremony.

September 21 and 22nd is a great time to welcome the Autumn Equinox (the timing of it depends on your specific time zone) as her energy is alive and well during that week.

Some ways to honor the Autumn Equinox, aka “Mabon”, include:

the sacred power of the autumn equinox

Take time to rest and rebalance.

After a harvest, it was a time to enjoy the “fruits of your labor” and begin canning and storing food for the winter.

You can do this physically (or metaphorically) by showing gratitude for what you’ve accomplished and allowing your body to rest and adjust to the new season. This can help you move into the winter months with the most energy and endurance possible.

A Time for reflection.

Take time to appreciate how far you have come and how hard you have worked this year. We tend to keep pushing forward, staying on the hamster wheel, when if we take the time to reflect and notice our accomplishments it can recharge our energy and offer us continued support for our goals.

Pat yourself on the back for all you’ve done, how you’ve been processing an unusually challenging 20/20. You’re doing it! Create time to honor that.

Tend to your focus.

People think of the New Year as the time to set goals and intentions, but autumn is also a good time to look at how the year is going and refocus for the last three months.

What is going well?

What would you like to see more of?

Focusing on what you what to achieve or feel for the rest of the year can help it come to fruition.

If you would like to harness the sacred power of the autumn equinox further with a ceremonial meditation, Raina’s Teachings Members can find The Autumn Equinox Guided Meditation in their library and it is also available for purchase.

In this meditation, Raina helps you to connect to the energy of “Sister Autumn”, as she calls it, to invite in and preserve this very personal magick. The energy is strongest today and tomorrow, but it can be done any time during autumn.

Happy Autumn Equinox.
