Why is it important to create a relationship to your child before birth? This is conscious conception. Every creation you begin, child or otherwise has a spirit that initiates the spark that grants growth. You are reading this because you desire a baby or you are already well into the creation of this special soul and want to know them. Here are 10 steps to creating a bond to your unborn child:

  1. Visualize Your Child

There is no right or wrong on how to do this. Visualize and even write down what you think your child will look like. Are they male, female? How do you see them? If you are already pregnant or expecting a child, how do you see them? Let your imagination show you without analyzing what you imagine.

  1. Breathe Them In

If you have not yet learned to meditate, now would be the time. Every thought or desire you have, attracts spirit. In this case, you are wanting a child. Breathe in that desire and begin to initiate contact.

  1. Create a Sacred Space to meet them in each time

In your meditative space, create a special room or bubble to meet them in. Visualizing them inside of a special spiritual womb works too. Meet them there each time you want to connect. It is a safe place for each of you to meet.

  1. Hold Your vision and begin speaking

Hold your vision, begin talking to your child and write down what they say.  This is also automatic writing but for the purposes of communicating with your child. Remember, right now they are a spirit and will talk back just as an adult would. Some questions to ask: Why are you choosing me as your mom or dad? Do we know each other? Write some questions down before you work with meditation so you are prepared. Be open to it changing once you are in there. It’s okay if every question isn’t answered. They are also learning to communicate with you and may not be perfect at it. My son used to run away from me in a playful way but did not speak until the very end of my pregnancy.  Be patient.

  1. Play Music that is specially for connecting with your child

Your subconscious and the baby’s spirit will begin bonding each time you go in to connect and write with them. Play a song or some music that holds the space for doing this.  After your baby is born play this music when you are up feeding them. It will help them adjust to this world as they will remember it. It will also strengthen your love and connection.

  1. Bonding Meditation

Have meditations where your only goal is to connect and hold a love connection. Receive their love while you send your love to them. You can do this by visualizing sitting in front of each other and connecting heart chakras and eyes, or allow the visualization to take its own form. This will be an energy exchange only and will not be about words. Leave your writing for now and continue letting in each others love.

  1. Ask them to Come into Your Dreams

Your dream state is another wonderful place to connect with your child. Ask your higher self to help connect the two of you while you are sleeping. Keep a journal next to your bed and write down your dreams as you wake up. Don’t worry if it doesn’t happen right away. Between going in to meditation and opening up for dreams this magickal link will begin even if you don’t remember the dreams. You may even be woken up in the night to write with them. This happened to me twice nearing the end of my pregnancy. If you are woken in the night and can’t sleep, grab a pen and write with your baby. It may start in the dream and continue once you wake up.

  1. Work with a guided Meditation

A guided meditation can be hugely helpful to this process. Raina and I have created several here for each stage of the process if you would like to be guided through it. It’s meant to be worked with repeatedly. Or find one that you like and can listen to often.

  1. Be Patient with the process and connect with your little one everyday whether you are pregnant or not

I had a difficult time conceiving. My advice is to be patient with the process. Even when you are pregnant you can be so overwhelmed with excitement to meet your baby that you want to hurry and get to the end. Pregnancy is a time to slow down and just allow spirit to guide and grow your baby. Take care of yourself and really BE in each moment. It will be over before you even know it.

If you are adopting or you have a surrogate, the same applies. This child knows they are coming to you. You are holding the space for them to grow even if you are notphysically carrying them. Do not take that lightly. Connect the same as if you were pregnant. Because you are.

  1. Talk to your baby during birth

Birth is intense and beautiful. All the hard work you put in during pregnancy will show up during birth. We cannot plan perfectly but we can be prepared.  The repeated connection made during pregnancy can help the two of you birth more easily.

The connection I made to my son was hugely helpful in our birth. He was able to tell me that I would be having a cesarean that day and not to be afraid. (I had planned a at home birth) I surrendered to what was happening because of the bond I had created with him. He guided me to the hospital to do what was needed for us both. I have also watched many women be guided during their births by their baby because of the daily communication they had through conception and pregnancy.

Aside from my own personal experience with my children which can be read here: Creating a Relationship to Your Unborn Child, I have been present for many home births as a doula and a trance channel. Birth is one of Raina’s specialties. Each one has been very sacred and special to me. These Sacred Parenting & Birth Mediations were created as a result of those experiences. I hope they can assist your little one into this world.
