Automatic writing is a wonderful way to connect with your higher self, inner spirit teachers, and open spiritual inspiration. It is a tool to not only receive information from source, but to make it grounded and real. We have thoughts and a flow of information that comes in every day but if you let it go by without writing it down, it will evaporate just the same.
I’d like to first dispel some myths about automatic writing. Such as, the pen is not going to write itself. Contrary to the hype and things shown in movies, your arm isn’t going to go off into some frenzy. There are times, that the writing is so fluid that you may feel an extra amount of energy flowing through your arm and hand. This tends to happen with more experienced automatic writers and should not be expected. More times than not, you will be trusting the information you receive and then writing it down. The magick is in the trust and skill you gain each time you sit and do it.
Another myth is that you can do this with your eyes closed the whole time and not know what you’re writing. Again, the pen isn’t going to write itself. The inspiration and messages are coming through your consciousness, therefore you need to be conscious in order to be successful in automatic writing. Another reason to open your eyes is so that you can actually read what you’ve written when you’re done. It’s okay to close your eyes to receive 3 or 4 words. Then open your eyes to write. As you become more adept at automatic writing, you’ll be able to write with your eyes open as the information is flowing.
Why Automatic Write?
Automatic writing brings your spiritual messages into being. Instead of leaving it all in your head, you’re able to look at what you’ve written with spirit, use it for your healing and really know that what you hear is real. It’s a tool to develop your spirituality further. And quite an effective one. When you first do it, you will bump up against your ego, negative thoughts and resistances to even doing it. This is great because you’ll be able to see how you judge yourself and can use the writing exercise to push through it anyway.
I used to get horrible migraine headaches. I used automatic writing to help heal myself from them. I would sit with a pounding headache and just let myself write. I would then read it out loud back to myself. To my surprise, I would cry and cry when reading aloud even though I did not feel one smidgen of emotion when I wrote it. This two-part process is incredibly healing emotionally. My migraines got much less frequent as I did this. I also began writing for the purposes of emotional release since I saw how well it worked even when I didn’t have a headache.
Another reason to automatic write is to write a book or a script etc. Writing is another form of creativity. You may have the desire to write but feel you don’t know “how” to go about it. The truth is, you just need to ask spirit for help and get to writing. Automatic writing is fun and doesn’t require a left brain writing skill. Just grab your pen, breathe and let the information come in.
Automatic Writing on a Computer
Another great way to automatic write is on a computer. Although I have found that the paper and pen have a healing quality that I don’t experience as much on a computer, it is still a great way to write. It can help you to move past some of the resistances you may have. If you’re a decent typer, this also allows you to be in a more meditative state and to close your eyes for longer periods of time. I still open them every few sentences because I’ve miss typed before and had to go back and start over, but it does give more allowance for a dreamier state during the writing process. This is how I do it with my blogs when in trance with Raina.
We are communicative beings and goal oriented beings. Automatic writing gives you a sense of accomplishment and allows in the energy of love and spirit. Ask any writer. Even if they aren’t aware of this other part they will still tell you that something helps them. Such as: “the book wrote itself.”
